Five Early Signs of Reading Difficulty

As children grow, parents spend a great deal of time making sure that their reading skills are progressing adequately. FLUENCY

Fluency has to do with students being able to read smoothly and at a regular speed. If students have other reading issues, they will have long pauses and start and stop frequently. This causes them to lose their place or forget what they are reading about. Tutoring programs work to help students strengthen other areas to help make fluency more smooth.

NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAS BEEN READ

Students should be able to restate what reading passages mean in their own words. If they cannot do this, they are struggling with comprehension. Individualized tutoring programs help students comprehend what they are reading. This can help them experience greater inclusion in the school setting and have increased communication with peers.
