There are new expectations for children entering second grade. These 7- or 8-year-old children are now expected to read fluently, with expression and possess an increased capability for reasoning. Students in 2nd grade spend less time learning to read and spend more time reading to learn. 2nd-grade is also when schools introduce formal comprehension. This includes making inferences, answering questions about something they have read even though the answer may not have been explicitly stated in the text. That’s why we created our 2nd Grade Reading Tutoring program.
If your child did not build a strong reading foundation in kindergarten and 1st grade, 2nd-grade can be incredibly difficult and painful for them and you alongside them.
